Akureyri Hospital, a member of Veltek, has begun using the Dragon speech recognition solution (Dragon Speech Recognition – Dragon Medical One) in its radiology department. The department had previously used an English speech recognition system for five years with great success and was one of the first radiology departments in Iceland to adopt such technology, with highly positive results.
The solution has performed exceptionally well this summer, improving workflow by allowing staff to document findings using voice commands instead of manual typing. Alongside Dragon, SAK is also testing Tíró, an Icelandic speech recognition system. While Tíró’s accuracy is not yet fully comparable to the English version, it offers an important capability for the Icelandic language environment. If accuracy improves, Tíró is expected to be adopted more widely at SAK.
We welcome when our members adopt new welfare technology solutions that support better workflows and higher service quality. Such implementation is an important step towards more targeted use of digital technology in healthcare in Iceland.
